To honor and recognize Ethel "Abby" Maxwell on the occasion of her 100th birthday.

WHEREAS, Ethel Emma Alease Milton Maxwell was born on March 7, 1913, to Charlie and Julia Milton in Jenkinjones, West Virginia; and
 
WHEREAS, Abby, as she is known to her friends and family, was married to John Maxwell, a veteran of WWII, for 35 years; and
 
WHEREAS, Abby honed her skills as a Culinary Engineer during WWII in the then "White" Officers Clubs" at Fort Hood, Texas and Hauchuca, Arizona, for which she won countless accolades for the quality and presentation of the food she prepared; and
 
WHEREAS, in 1965, Abby relocated to Columbus, Ohio from Beckley, West Virginia, where she secured a position with the State of Ohio as a cook at the Juvenile Detention Center on West Broad Street until her retirement in 1975; and
 
WHEREAS, Abby continues to call Columbus home, residing with her nephew and his wife; and
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
 
That this Council does hereby honor and recognize Ethel Emma Alease Maxwell on the occasion of her 100th birthday.
