To celebrate the 2022 Pride Month and Annual Pride Festival and March, “The People’s Pride”

WHEREAS, June is LGBTQ+ Pride Month to recognize those who took part in the 1969 Stonewall Riots in New York City, led by transgender activist Marsha P. Johnson; and
WHEREAS, Each year, Columbus and cities around the world host annual Pride marches and festivals to commemorate liberation for LGBTQ+ individuals; and
WHEREAS, The organization Stonewall Columbus started hosting its annual Pride March and Festival in 1981, with it typically generating over 700,000 visitors to Columbus and Central Ohio; and
WHEREAS, LGBTQ+ Pride Month and annual Pride Marches are celebrations of equality and the commitment to uplifting LGBTQ+ identities; and
WHEREAS, Columbus’s 2022 Pride March and Festival, “The People’s Pride,” is a celebration of LGBTQ+ identities and reinforces Columbus’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this Council does hereby celebrates the 2022 LGBTQ+ Pride Month and the 2022 Stonewall Columbus Pride March as these events recognize Columbus’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and uplifting LGBTQ+ identities within the community.
