To Recognize Former City Council Member Priscilla R. Tyson for her service to our community, and to the City of Columbus

Body

WHEREAS, Priscilla R. Tyson, a lifelong resident of Columbus, has left an indelible footprint on City Council and our great City; and

 

WHEREAS, Priscilla helped to found and lead City Year Columbus; and

 

WHEREAS, Priscilla served as a member of The Columbus Civil Service Commission for thirteen years; and

 

WHEREAS, Mrs. Tyson was appointed, in January of 2007, to Columbus City Council; and

 

WHEREAS, the former City Council Member was elected in November of the same year and reelected by the voters three more times, being the top vote-getter in each election; and

 

WHEREAS, Priscilla served City Council from 2007 - 2021; and

 

WHEREAS, Highlights of her tenure include championing job creation and economic development, improving safety, and a never ending desire to improve the quality of life for Columbus residents; and

 

WHEREAS, Priscilla Tyson chaired the Finance, Development, Recreation and Parks, Administration, Health and Human Services, Workforce Development, and Zoning Committees; and

.

WHEREAS, She was also elected to serve two terms as the President Pro Tem of Columbus City Council; and

 

WHEREAS, Council Member Tyson’s signature achievements are wide ranging, and have benefitted all parts of our community including establishment of the Commission on Black Girls and co-creating one of the nation’s first joint City and County Food Plans to reduce food insecurity; and

 

WHEREAS, Priscilla’s service enabled her to become the longest woman to serve on Columbus City Council and the 2nd longest tenured member of council in the city’s esteemed history

 

BE IT RESOLVED THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:  That this council does hereby recognize Priscilla R. Tyson for her years of service to the citizens of Columbus and the Columbus City Council.
