Explanation
BACKGROUND: This ordinance authorizes an appropriation of $2,787,720.37 from the unappropriated balance of the Federal and State Law Enforcement Contraband Seizure Funds for the Division of Police. Funds were received from seized and forfeited property and are used solely for law enforcement purposes as specified in Ordinance 1850-85. These funds are needed to cover the cost of some of the Division of Police’s travel and training needs, software maintenance, upgrades and licenses, service renewals, maintenance contracts, furniture, and community educations expenses.
FISCAL IMPACT: This ordinance authorizes an appropriation of $2,787,720.37 in the Federal and State Law Enforcement Contraband/Seizure Funds for the Division of Police.

To authorize an appropriation of $2,787,720.37 from the unappropriated balance of the Law Enforcement Contraband Seizure Fund to the Division of Police to fund travel and training needs, software maintenance and licenses, maintenance services, and community education expenses for the Division of Police. WHEREAS, monies were received from seized and forfeited property; and,
WHEREAS, funds received from these forfeitures must be solely used for law enforcement purposes as specified in Ordinance #1850-85; and,
WHEREAS, there is a need to appropriate funds in the Law Enforcement Contraband Seizure Fund in order to fund travel and training needs, software maintenance and licenses, maintenance services, and community education expenses; NOW, THEREFORE:
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS
SECTION 1.
