Explanation
This ordinance authorizes the City Clerk to enter into a contract with Marlon Anthony Events LLC in support of The Build Summit. The Summit is an event for black men’s empowerment, wellness, financial literacy, civic engagement, and entrepreneurship education.

The program is taking place in January 2023. The contract for The Build will support the empowerment of black men in Columbus, with a prioritization of Columbus City Schools Alumni. In addition to discussions and workshops on a wide array of topics, participants will complete a needs assessment and be connected to a success coach and any resources that might support their goals of advancement and empowerment.

Emergency action is necessary to ensure timely financial support ahead of the end of the City’s fiscal year and in advance of the Summit event at the beginning of 2023.

Fiscal Impact: Funding is available within the Job Growth subfund.

WHEREAS, Columbus City Council seeks to promote policies and programs that support economic stability and that engage partners to serve the evolving needs of Columbus’ diverse population; and

WHEREAS, The Build Summit prioritizes the empowerment of Columbus City Schools Alumni by providing access to education and entrepreneurship workshops as well as performing a needs assessment to network attendees with wraparound supports and resources for economic advancement; and

WHEREAS, an emergency exists in that it is immediately necessary to authorize this agreement to ensure the timely support of programming for black men’s empowerment; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
