To honor, recognize and celebrate the life of Douglas C. Moore, 1946-2022.

WHEREAS, Douglas Moore was born on April 27, 1946 in Thorpe, West Virginia; and

WHEREAS, Doug received a Bachelor of Science degree (1968) from Bluefield State, he was a member of OMEGA PSI PHI (Lampodas Club) and a member of the basketball team; and

WHEREAS, in 1970 Doug began working for OHIO Laborer’s Training and Upgrading Program, where he was Assistant Director of Training and Administration, a joint Labor- Management project between The Ohio Contractor Association and Laborer’s Council in Ohio. As h progressed in his career, he became a Business Agent and Social Coordinator for Laborers Local 423 from 1974 - 1977; and

WHEREAS, Doug began working for the City of Columbus (1980) in the Department of Development as a Code Enforcement officer. He joined AFSCME Local 1632, he started as a Union Steward and later became a Chief Steward, Executive Board member, Vice President, Doug became President of AFSCME in 1992; and
WHEREAS, Doug represented the members of AFSCME Local 1632 for 23 years and was very instrumental in developing several innovative programs which included grievance mediation, peer mediations, group legal services, home buyers’ to name a few. These programs helped to improve relationships between Labor and Management; and
WHEREAS, Doug remained President of AFSCME Local 632 until he decided to retire from the City of Columbus with 30 years of service (2015), Doug was deeply rooted in the labor movement and political activism; and
WHEREAS, Doug was a visionary leader who cared deeply about people, he believed that, in order to make the world a better place you need to invest in the lives of others ; and

WHEREAS, Douglas C. Moore will be missed - he was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Ernest and Mittie Moore and sister Judy Moore Braithwaite - left to cherish his memory, wife Sharon; sons Jamal (Nahshon), Jawanza (Bethany) Moore, siblings Clifto...
