The Columbus LGBTQ+ Affairs Commission's Advocacy & Policy Committee met on Wednesday, Sept. 30th at 6:00 p.m. virtually. Commissioners Calhoun, Saito, and Williamson were present.
The Committee discussed HB96 implementation with regard to gender markers on photo IDs. In particular, the committee hopes to create a resource list on this topic that would include opportunities like legal clinics.
The Committee then discussed pending legislation including HB838 (would prohibit insurance coverage of gender affirming care), HB190 (would prohibit public school officials from addressing a student by a name other than one on their birth certificate), HB249 (proposed drag ban), HB136 (Ohio Fairness Act; would add sexual orientation and gender expression to Ohio's anti-discrimination laws), HB300 (would ban conversion therapy), HB700 (would cut funding for any institution receiving state funding that provides gender transition care to minors), HB796 (regarding incarceration of individuals based on biological sex), HB798 (regarding public restroom restriction based on biological sex), and how best the Committee can track each of these.
