The Columbus LGBTQ+ Affairs Commission's Community Engagement, Communications and Outreach Committee met on Thursday, August 13th at 5:15 p.m. at 750 E Long St, 1st floor. Commissioners Keilholz, Cogar, and Crenshaw were present, and Commissioner Boyd-Nelson was excused.
The committee reviewed priorities identified by Commission leadership for the coming months, including audience mapping, community outreach, social media, youth engagement, accessible meeting locations and coordination with other committees.
The committee discussed continued development of an audience map to better understand who the Commission is reaching, where engagement has occurred and where additional outreach is needed.
Commissioner Crenshaw provided an update on an interactive mapping tool (different from the audience map) under development that could track locations where the Commission has engaged with the community as well as community resources and potential safe spaces.
Commissioner Keilholz provided an update on a recent conversation with Attorney Robert Tobias regarding the Commission's potential social media presence.
The committee discussed guidance related to public records, comment moderation, account administration and coordination with the Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI).
Commissioner Keilholz shared that ODI provided additional information regarding records retention and administrative access that will inform development of the Commission's social media accounts.
The committee discussed beginning with Instagram and Facebook, with the potential to expand to additional platforms in the future.
