Background
This ordinance authorizes the City Clerk to enter into an advance payment grant agreement with Help and Hope Community Center in support of the Youth Empowered initiative which serves marginalized youth and young adults.
Help and Hope Community Center is a local non-profit organization that addresses the unique needs of Columbus youth and the wellbeing of the community. Their mission is achieved through education initiatives, healthcare access support, and resource connections.
Youth Empowered is a six-month youth development initiative created by Help and Hope Community Center to provide mentorship, education, leadership training, and supportive services for at-risk youth in Columbus, Ohio. The program serves marginalized youth and young adults ages 14-21, including but not limited to high school dropouts, justice-involved youth, teenage parents, and individuals affected by substance abuse. Participants receive weekly workshops focused on conflict resolution, financial literacy, health education, technology skills, career readiness, and mentorship. The program also includes field trips, counseling support, and exploratory learning opportunities to reduce juvenile delinquency and increase academic and employment success. Grant funds may support staffing, outreach, transportation, equipment, program materials, and/or workshop activities to strengthen access to education and skill development.
Since the organization lacks the funding necessary to operate the program fully on a reimbursement basis, funds will be advanced to Help and Hope Community Center in support of the Youth Empowered initiative which serves marginalized youth and young adults.
Fiscal Impact: Funding ($20,000.00) is available within the Neighborhood Initiatives subfund.
