BACKGROUND: This legislation authorizes an amendment to Ordinance No. 1057-2023, passed by Columbus City Council on April 17, 2023, to allow for a correction of the name of one of the organizations in Exhibit A.
Ordinance No. 1057-2023, passed by Columbus City Council on April 17, 2023, authorized the Director of the Department of Development to execute grant agreements with numerous not-for-profit, social service agencies for the provision of human services programming for the Elevate 2.0! program. Exhibit A included an organization with the name “National African American Male Wellness Agency”. It was recently discovered that this is the trade name of the organization, not the legal name. The legal name, as registered with the Ohio Secretary of State, is “African American Male Wellness Walk”. All other information in Exhibit A remains the same.
Emergency action is requested in order to reimburse for approved expenses incurred since January 1, 2023, to prevent the organization from experiencing financial hardship.

WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 1057-2023, passed by Columbus City Council on April 17, 2023, authorized the Director of the Department of Development to execute grant agreements with numerous not-for-profit, social service agencies for the provision of human services programming for the Elevate 2.0! program; and
WHEREAS, Exhibit A of Ordinance No. 1057-2023 included an organization with the name “National African American Male Wellness Agency”; and
WHEREAS, it was recently discovered that this is the trade name of the organization, not the legal name. The legal name, as registered with the Ohio Secretary of State, is “African American Male Wellness Walk”; and
WHEREAS, the Director of the Department of Development requests that Ordinance No. 1057-2023 be amended in order to correct the organization name: and
WHEREAS, an emergency exists in the usual daily operation of the Department of Development in that it is immediately necessary to amend Ordinance 1057-2023, passed by Columbus City Council on April 17, 2023, in order to reimburse for approved expenses incurred since January 1, 2023, to prevent the organization from experiencing financial hardship; now, therefore,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
SECTION 1. That Exhibit A of Ordinance No. 1057-2023, passed by Columbus City Council on April 17, 2023, be amended to read as follows, with deletion stricken and new language in bold: National African American Male Wellness Agency to African American Male Wellness Walk.
SECTION 2. That for the reasons stated in the preamble hereto, which is hereby made a part hereof, this ordinance is hereby declared to be an emergency measure which shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage and approval by the Mayor, or ten days after passage if the Mayor neither approves nor vetoes it.
