Explanation

This ordinance authorizes the City Clerk to enter into a grant agreement with A Seat At Our Table in support of the WorkSpace program. A Seat At Our Table is a local not-for-profit organization, and WorkSpace is a professional development, career accelerator program for Gen Z and Millennial Black women and women of color.

 

This grant will expand the WorkSpace program. WorkSpace is an 8-month professional development program for Black Gen Z and Millennial women in Central Ohio. Through in-person and virtual programming along with access to mentors, peer networks and job opportunities, WorkSpace provides women of color professionals with the resources and support networks needed to attain higher-paying jobs and advance their careers. Up to $3,500.00 of food and non-alcoholic beverages expenses are authorized under this grant agreement for the monthly sessions and associated WorkSpace events.

 

Fiscal Impact: Funding is available within the Job Growth subfund.

 

Title

To authorize the City Clerk to enter into a grant agreement with A Seat At Our Table in support of the WorkSpace program and to authorize an appropriation and expenditure within the Job Growth subfund. ($15,000.00)

 

Body

WHEREAS, Columbus City Council seeks to promote policies and programs that support economic stability and that engage partners to serve the evolving needs of Columbus’ diverse population; and

 

WHEREAS, WorkSpace prioritizes career advancement for young women of color by providing skills, networks, mentors, allies, and strategies that equip them to succeed; and

 

WHEREAS, It is necessary to authorize the City Clerk to enter into this agreement to support programming for the career advancement of young women of color; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:

 

SECTION 1. That the City Clerk is hereby authorized to enter into a grant agreement with A Seat At Our Table in support of the WorkSpace program.

 

SECTION 2.  That the City Auditor is hereby authorized and directed to appropriate $15,000.00 in the Job Growth subfund, fund 1000, subfund 100015, to Columbus City Council per the accounting codes in the attachment to this ordinance.

 

SECTION 3. That per the action authorized in Section 1 of this ordinance, the expenditure of $15,000.00, or so much thereof as necessary, is hereby authorized in the Job Growth subfund, fund 1000, subfund 100015, per the accounting codes in the attachment to this ordinance.

 

SECTION 4.  That up to $3,500.00 of said expenditure may be for food and non-alcoholic beverage purchases and that City Council finds such expenditure to be for a proper public purpose.  No expenditure may be made for alcoholic beverage purchases.

 

SECTION 5. That the funds necessary to carry out the purpose of this ordinance are hereby deemed appropriated, and the City Auditor shall establish such accounting codes as necessary.

 

SECTION 6. That the City Auditor is authorized to make any accounting changes to revise the funding source for all contracts or contract modifications associated with this ordinance.

 

SECTION 7. That this ordinance shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
