To honor, recognize, and celebrate the life of Beatrice Denise Austin, and to extend our sincerest condolences to her family and friends on the occasion of her passing on Tuesday, April 15th 2014.
 
Body
WHEREAS, Beatrice Denise "Kay" Austin was born August 1, 1959 in Floyd County of Rome, Georgia to Theodore Austin Jr. and Joan (Collins) Austin; and
 
WHEREAS, she was affectionately known as the favorite sister to James, Richard, Mary, Tedy and Marcia and the proud mother of four daughter and one son ; and
 
WHEREAS, Kay married her sweetheart Dwight Hughes in 1997 and became foster parents to a host of children; and
WHEREAS, Kay was most proud being Maw-Maw to her grandchildren: Kylah, Kamryn, Ronnie Jr, Korey, Nylah, Brezlin, Marcus Jr., Kayson, Sean & Baby Gabrielle.
 
WHEREAS, Kay put family first and enjoyed spending time with every niece and nephew in her life which garnered her the title of 'Auntie of the year;' and
 
WHEREAS, Kay was a proud graduate of Columbus City Schools and went out to obtain her bachelor degree from Wilberforce University and master's degree from University of Phoenix; and
 
WHEREAS, Kay was employed by the City of Columbus in the  Mayor's Capital Kids Program where she coordinated and operated daily activities at The Beatty Community Recreation Center, a career that she absolutely loved; and
 
WHEREAS, Kay's life was a dedicated to service and actively involved in the Lincoln Park community where she managed the food pantry for several years; and
 
WHEREAS, Kay's faith was immeasurable and diligently attended Solid Rock Christian Center where she worked with the Children's Ministry and anywhere else she was needed; and
 
WHEREAS, Kay went home to the Lord on Tuesday, April 15th 2014, and leaves to cherish her memory, her family and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, church family, students and moreover a legacy which will continue to live on through the many lives that she touched; now therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
 
That this Council does hereby honor, recognize, and celebrate the life of Beatrice Denise Austin, and extends our sincerest condolences to her family and friends on the occasion of her passing.
