To honor, recognize, and express our appreciation for Magistrate Denise Rena Waddy on the occasion of her retirement from the Franklin County Municipal Court.

WHEREAS, for more than 30 years, Magistrate Denise Waddy served her local community and the State of Ohio as an attorney and appointed magistrate; and
WHEREAS, Denise Waddy is a graduate of Springfield North High School, Springfield Ohio. She went on to attend Adelphi University in Garden City, New York. Upon earning her B.A. in 199, she attended the University of Dayton school of Law and received her Juris Doctor in 1993; and
WHEREAS, Denise Waddy worked for the Franklin County Public Defender’s office as a staff attorney before being appointed to the Franklin County Municipal Court bench as a Magistrate in 1995. She has been a Magistrate for 27 years; and
WHEREAS, in 2005 Waddy became the proud recipient of the Dr. Martin Luther King image award presented by the Capital University Black Law Students Association; and
WHEREAS, Denise Waddy is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association where she previously served on the Advisory Council on Diversity Initiatives; and
WHEREAS, Denise Waddy is a member of the Columbus Bar Association where she served as past Chair of the Municipal Court Committee; and
WHEREAS, Denise Waddy is a previous member of the Ethics and Grievance Committee; a member of the Ohio Association of Magistrates; a former Trustee of the Bexley Public Library and a active member of her church, Love Zion Missionary Baptist church; and
WHEREAS, Magistrate Waddy has dedicated her life and career to improving lives. She is married to Attorney John W. Waddy Jr. She is a proud mother of 4 daughters and 1 grandson; and
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this Council does hereby honor, recognize, and express our appreciation for Magistrate Denise Waddy on the occasion of her retirement from the Franklin County Municipal Court; now, therefore
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT: This Council does hereby thank Magistrate Denise Waddy for her service.
