Explanation
This legislation authorizes the Director of the Department of Development to enter into a grant agreement with the Greater Columbus Sports Commission LLC, or any affiliate, subsidiary, or parent company thereof, to provide support to the Columbus Fury through the Women in Sports Program through the Greater Columbus Sports Commission along with the Board of Commissioners or Administrator of Franklin County, Ohio and Pro Volleyball Federation, LLC d/b/a Major League Volleyball or any affiliate, subsidiary, or parent company thereof, in an amount up to $500,000.00. Funding will be advanced on a predetermined schedule.
The City, as part of its efforts to encourage and promote economic development, wishes to support the Columbus Fury through the Women in Sports Program of the Greater Columbus Sports Commission. The Greater Columbus Sports Commission, a non-profit organization dedicated to attracting, hosting, and promoting sporting events in Central Ohio, aims to benefit the local economy by impacting local retail, lodging, and entertainment sectors. The Greater Columbus Sports Commission plays a significant role in promoting tourism in Franklin County and the greater Columbus area.
Fiscal Impact: Funding is available in Neighborhood Economic Development Fund (2237).
Contract Compliance: The vendor’s contract compliance, 006014, expires on May 21, 2027.

To authorize the Director of the Department of Development to enter into a grant agreement with the Greater Columbus Sports Commission LLC (or any affiliates, subsidiaries, or parent corporations thereof), the Board of Commissioners or County Administrator of Franklin County, Ohio, and Pro Volleyball Federation LLC d/b/a Major League Volleyball (or any affiliates, subsidiaries, or parent corporations thereof) for the purpose of providing support to the Columbus Fury through the Women in Sports Program of the Greater Columbus Sports Commission in an amount up to $500,000.00; to authorize the appropriation and expenditure of up to $500,000.00 from the Neighborhood Economic Development Fund; and to advance funding per a predetermined schedule. ($500,000.00).
Body
WHEREAS, the City, as part of its efforts to encourage and promote economic development, wishes to support the Columbus Fury through the Women in Sports Program of the Greater Columbus Sports Commission; and
WHEREAS, the Greater Columbus Sports Commission LLC, a non-profit organization dedicated to attracting, hosting, and promoting sporting events in Central Ohio, aims to benefit the local economy by impacting local retail, lodging, and entertainment sectors; and
WHEREAS, the Greater Columbus Sports Commission plays a significant role in promoting tourism in Franklin County and the greater Columbus area; and
WHEREAS, the City of Columbus would like to provide support to the Greater Columbus Sports Commission LLC and the Columbus Fury through the Women in Sports Program of the Greater Columbus Sports Commission, further promoting tourism and benefitting the local economy; and
WHEREAS, this legislation will authorize the Director of Development to enter into a grant agreement with the Greater Columbus Sports Commission LLC in the amount $500,000.00 from the Neighborhood Economic Development Fund; and
WHEREAS, to authorize an appropriation and expenditure in an amount up to $500,000.00 from the Neighborhood Economic Development Fund; and
WHEREAS, to authorize funding be advanced to the organization on a predetermined schedule;
WHEREAS, it has become necessary in the daily usual operation to support the Columbus Fury through the Women in Sports Program NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
SECTION 1. That the Director of the Department of Development is hereby authorized to enter into a grant agreement with the Greater Columbus Sports Commission LLC (or any affiliates, subsidiaries, or parent corporations thereof), the Board of Commissioners or Administrator of Franklin County, Ohio, and Pro Volleyball Federation LLC d/b/a Major League Volleyball (or any affiliates, subsidiaries, or parent corporations thereof) for the purpose of providing support to the Columbus Fury through the Women in Sports Program of the Greater Columbus Sports Commission in an amount up to $500,000.00, and is authorized to advance funds per a predetermined schedule to be included in the agreement.
SECTION 2. That from the unappropriated monies and from all monies estimated to come into said fund from any and all sources and unappropriated for any other purpose during the fiscal year ended December 31, 2025, the sum of $500,000.00 is appropriated in Fund 2237 (Neighborhood Economic Development Fund), Dept-Div 44-02 (Economic Development Division), in object class 05 (Other) per the account codes in the attachment to this ordinance.
SECTION 3. That for the purpose as stated in Section 1, the expenditure of $500,000.00 or so much thereof as may be needed is hereby authorized in Fund 2237 (Neighborhood Economic Development Fund), Dept-Div 44-02 (Economic Development Division), in object class 05 (Other) per the accounting codes in the attachment to this ordinance.
SECTION 4. That this grant agreement is awarded in accordance with the relevant provisions of City Code.
SECTION 5. That the funds necessary to carry out the purpose of this ordinance are hereby deemed appropriated, and the City Auditor shall establish such accounting codes as necessary.
SECTION 6. That the City Auditor is authorized to establish such accounting codes as necessary, to make any accounting changes to revise the funding source for all agreements, contracts, or modifications associated with this Ordinance.
SECTION 7. That this ordinance shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
