To express our gratitude and deep appreciation to Jerry Edwards for his nearly twenty-five years of exceptional service to the people of Columbus and Central Ohio upon his retirement as Administrator of the Division of Refuse Collection.
 
WHEREAS, with his retirement on December 31, 2003, Jerry Edwards completed a nearly twenty-five year career of outstanding leadership for the people of Columbus with the Department of Public Service, Division of Refuse Collection; and
 
WHEREAS, starting as a business manager in June, 1979, with the Division of Refuse Collection, Jerry Edwards was transferred to the Department of Public Service Office of the Director where he worked in the area of human resources; and
 
WHEREAS, Jerry Edwards has established an exemplary record since 1992 as Administrator of Refuse Collection, where he successfully spearheaded the transition from manual collections to automated collections; making Columbus one of the first major cities in the U.S. to fully convert to automated collection; and
 
WHEREAS, beyond Jerry Edwards' many awards and accomplishments, what his co-workers and admirers - both within and outside of City government - have valued and will miss the most are his personal qualities of forthrightness, honesty, and integrity; and
 
WHEREAS, as Jerry Edwards looks forward to enjoying a second career as Director of Human Resources for the City of Hilliard; it is more than fitting for this Council to acknowledge his many contributions to the quality of life in Columbus as well as the affection of his many friends; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:  
 
That this Council does hereby express our gratitude and deep appreciation to Jerry Edwards for his nearly twenty-five years of exceptional service to the people of Columbus and Central Ohio upon his retirement as Administrator of the Division of Refuse Collection.
