Explanation

This ordinance authorizes the City Clerk to enter into a grant agreement with Columbus Urban League in support of the CULYP Inaugural Legacy Gala.

The mission of the Columbus Urban League Young Professionals (CULYP) is to serve as a base of support for the Columbus Urban League and their respective initiatives, promote the overall mission of the Columbus Urban League and a comprehensive orientation to the National Urban League movement for young professionals in the Columbus community.

The Inaugural Legacy Gala is an elevated evening of purpose, connection, and celebration. The Inaugural Legacy Gala marks the beginning of a new chapter, honoring the foundation of leadership, service, and community impact that has shaped the organization, while intentionally investing in what’s next for young professionals and the communities CULYP serves. The Gala will feature meaningful recognition, engaging storytelling, and moments that reflect both the legacy and forward momentum.

City Council is authorizing an upfront distribution of the grant funds. CULYP will utilize the grant to support the non-food expenses associated with the Gala: a speaker honorarium, videography and photography services, décor, and live performance expenses. CULYP would like to impact 200 Young Professionals in the Columbus area. CULYP intends to leverage the Gala to grow the overall membership ranks by 15-20% and to increase the organization’s overall fundraising goal.

Fiscal Impact: Funding is available within the Neighborhood Initiatives subfund.

Emergency action is requested in order to provide CULYP with the financial resources necessary for planning and executing the event.
