Explanation

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this legislation is to authorize a not-for-profit service contract extension with Asociacion de Escritores de Ohio to extend the term of the contract from Nov. 30th, 2026 to March 31st, 2027. This will facilitate further programming pertaining to Latino Heritage Month, such as an event to engage stakeholders (such as volunteers) who make Latino Heritage Month possible, evaluate 2026 programming successes and challenges, and prepare for 2027. The original cost of the contract was $120,000.00.

Reason additional goods/services could not be foreseen:

Since the contract began, further engagement opportunities with community stakeholders, including volunteers who make Latino Heritage Month possible, have been identified. Columbus City Council affirms the need for further engagement with these stakeholders, even after Latino Heritage Month, to ensure that relevant stakeholders receive sustained engagement, review what went well and what needed improvement in 2026, and how best to prepare for 2027.

Reason other procurement processes were not used:

Asociacion de Escritores de Ohio is uniquely qualified to administer Latino Heritage Month programming on behalf of the City of Columbus because they have been contracted for this work since 2025. Before that, Our Lady of Guadalupe Center administered Latino Heritage Month but has since been unable due to the large-scale demands of the events associated with Latino Heritage Month.
