Explanation

This ordinance authorizes the City Attorney to accept a grant from the Franklin County Board of Commissioners, Justice Programs Unit.  These funds shall be used to provide for the continued funding of the Criminal and Traffic Diversion Grant through the end of February 2004.   The Criminal Diversion Program, instituted by the City Attorney's Office in 2000, is a program developed to reduce court delay.  The goals of the program are to expedite the processing of criminal cases in trial courts and to decrease or divert criminal case filings in trial courts.   Unfortunately funding for this program will not continue after February 2004.  This ordinance will further authorize the transfer and appropriation of matching funds required by the grant award.

The Grant award is as follows:

2003-DG-E-7721 - BYRNE Criminal and Traffic Diversion Program $13,678.00

Matching funds required from the City Attorney's general fund budget are $4,559.00.
