Explanation
This resolution serves to recognize and express appreciation to the management, players and support staff of the Columbus Crew Major League Soccer Team for their support of and involvement with the City of Columbus' Keep Columbus Beautiful program.
The working relationship between the Columbus Crew and Keep Columbus Beautiful began in 2003 when The Crew agreed to be part of a television public service announcement. KCB's mascot, Phil Meeyup, was a guest on the field along with a number of other mascots from various organizations as mascots played a form of soccer. Mascots were individually shown on the big board as they engaged in the soccer game. In March 2005 The Crew participated in a cleanup in the Linden area. The entire team along with its management participated in the cleanup.
On April 26, 2006 The Crew performed its second cleanup in the Linden area. Again, the entire team participated along with persons from management.
In the fall 2005 edition of Network News of Keep America Beautiful, Crew team members are shown holding a Keep Columbus Beautiful cleanup sign with a lengthy story about how the team performed a KCB cleanup in the neighborhood around Crew Stadium.
The fact that the entire team turns out for cleanups and the fact that KCB has a standing invitation to produce public service announcements that include The Crew makes this organization a corporate partner of great significance.

To recognize and express appreciation to the management, players and support staff of the Columbus Crew Major League Soccer Team for their support of and involvement with the City of Columbus' Keep Columbus Beautiful program.

WHEREAS, the City of Columbus encourages partnerships that leverage and complement services delivered by the City; and
WHEREAS, the Columbus Crew MLS Soccer Team is one of Keep Columbus Beautiful's valued corporate partners; and
WHEREAS, the management, players and support staff of the Columbus Crew MLS Soccer Team participate in the planning and implementation of Keep Columbus Beautiful events at the stadium, including the annual cleanups around the stadium area and in the Linden area; and
WHEREAS, during such events the entire Crew team and management participate; and
WHEREAS, it is altogether fitting and appropriate to recognize their contributions; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
SECTION 1. That this Council does hereby recognize and express appreciation to the Columbus Crew MLS Soccer Team management, players and support staff for working to Keep Columbus Beautiful.
SECTION 2. That this Council recognizes the value of public/private partnerships and encourages increased use of such partnerships in service to the citizens of Columbus.
SECTION 3. That this resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
