To honor and recognize the Columbus Cavalier / Brunson Foundation as they celebrate their 21st anniversary on April 28, 2011.

WHEREAS, the Columbus Cavaliers Club, Inc. was founded in 1949 by six black men and today the membership has grown to thirty-five members and consists of professional black men representing a wide range of careers including education, law, medicine as well as a number of roles in the public and private sectors; and
WHEREAS, the club's mission is to promote the general, social, and civil relationship between members of the organization and the Columbus community and help provide youth of today encouragement, hope, education and economic development opportunities; and
WHEREAS, in April 1990, the Columbus Cavaliers Club, Inc. founded the Columbus Cavalier / Brunson Foundation; and
WHEREAS, the Columbus Cavalier / Brunson Foundation is a nonprofit organization designed to encourage academic excellence, scientific and charitable purpose through the awarding of scholarships to qualifying high school students; and
WHEREAS, students in the Columbus Public School District are eligible for the scholarships and must meet a certain criteria including a GPA of 2.8 or better, a course of study in the college-preparatory curriculum, letters of recommendation from teachers, school counselors, and community members approved by members of the Foundation and written student essays; and
WHEREAS, the sscholarships are awarded annually to deserving students providing them opportunity to continue their academic education; and
WHEREAS, the Columbus Cavalier / Brunson Foundation will celebrate 21 years awarding youth scholarships during the 2011 Columbus Cavaliers / Brunson Foundation Annual Scholarship Banquet; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
That this Council does hereby honor and recognize the Columbus Cavalier / Brunson Foundation as they celebrate their 21st anniversary on April 28, 2011 and thank them for their contributions to the community.
