Explanation
Background
In 2003, the City purchased two office buildings located at 174 and 182 East Long Street where the Central Ohio Area Agency on Aging is located.
This legislation will authorize a 3-month contract extension with Equity Real Estate (Vendor 31-1296257) for building management and maintenance services for the Central Ohio Area Agency on Aging.
Equity Real Estate, the current building managing agent, has a 4-year history and knowledge of the buildings' HVAC and other mechanical problems and has been responsive in making emergency repairs and addressing all other building management issues. The current contract with Equity Real Estate expires March 31, 2007.
Emergency action is requested in order to allow sufficient time for the Central Ohio Area Agency on Aging to secure bids for building management services beginning July 1, 2007 and to provide for continuous service to the facilities for the 3-month period.
Fiscal Impact
$44,590.00 is required and budgeted from the Recreation and Parks Grant Fund to meet the financial obligation of this contract.

To authorize and direct the Director of Recreation and Parks to extend the contract with Equity Real Estate for building management and maintenance services for the Central Ohio Area Agency on Aging and to authorize the expenditure of $44,590.00 from the Recreation & Parks Grant Fund , and to declare an emergency. ($44,590.00).

WHEREAS, an emergency exists in the usual daily operation of the Recreation and Parks Department in that it is immediately necessary to extend said contract for the preservation of public health, peace, property, safety and welfare; now, therefore
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
Section 1: That the Director of Recreation & Parks be and he is hereby authorized and directed to extend the contract with Equity Real Estate for building management and maintenance services for a three-month period beginning April 1, 2007.
Section 2. That the expenditure of $44,590.00 or so much thereof as may be necessary, be and is hereby authorized from the Recreation and Parks Grant Fund No. 286, Department No. 51, Object Level Three, 3336. to pay the cost thereof as follows:

Section 3. That for the reasons stated in the preamble hereto, which is hereby made a part hereof, this Ordinance is hereby declared to be an emergency measure and shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage and approval by the Mayor, or ten days after passage if the Mayor neither approves nor vetoes the same.
