Explanation
BACKGROUND. Need. This legislation authorizes a modification to the contract for professional engineering services with Korda/Nemeth Engineering, Inc. for the Briggs Road Drainage Improvements Project which is one of the Group 7 Roadside Stormwater System Improvements Projects. This modification will provide additional professional engineering services to update existing construction plans to include the design of sidewalks and curb ramps along Briggs Road.

EMERGENCY DESIGNATION. Emergency designation is requested for this ordinance so that this additional work can be incorporated into the project plans without delaying project schedules.
FISCAL IMPACT. Budgeted Amount. Sufficient funds and spending authority are available for this expenditure. The Transportation Division is providing the funds for this modification.
Amount of Additional Funds - This Modification: $49,361.00.

To authorize the Director of Public Utilities to modify the contract with Korda/Nemeth Engineering, Inc. for professional engineering services for the Briggs Road Drainage Improvements Project from the 1995, 1999 Voted Steets and Highway Fund for the Transportation Division; to authorize the expenditure of $49,361.00; and to declare an emergency. WHEREAS, it is necessary to modify Contract No. XC819003 to authorize the funds required to allow payment to Korda/Nemeth Engineering, Inc. for professional engineering services associated with the Briggs Road Drainage Improvements Project at the earliest practicable date, and
WHEREAS, an emergency exists in the usual daily operation of the Division of Sewerage and Drainage, Department of Public Utilities. Construction plans and specifications are completed for this project. In order for the construction schedule to proceed without delay, these additional design services must be incorporated into the existing construction documents. It is immediately necessary to authorize the Director of Public Utilities to modify the contract for professional engineering design and technical project services for the Briggs Road Drainage Improvements Project, for the preservation of the public health, peace, property and safety; now, therefore
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS
Section 1. That the Director of Public Utilities be, and hereby is, authorized to modify Contract No. XC819003 with Korda/Nemeth Engineering, Inc., 1650 Watermark Drive, Columbus, Ohio 43215 for professional engineering services in connection with the Briggs Road Drainage Improvements Project in accordance with the terms and conditions as shown in the contract on file in the office of the Division of Sewerage and Drainage.
Section 2. That for the purpose of paying the cost of the professional engineering services contract modification, the following expenditure, or as much thereof as may be needed, be and the same is hereby authorized as follows: Department 59-09, Fund 704, Project 530790, OCA Code 644385, Object Level Three Code 6631.
Section 3. That for the reasons stated in the preamble hereto, which is hereby made a part hereof, this ordinance is hereby declared to be an emergency measure and shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage and approval by the Mayor, or ten days after passage if the Mayor neither approves nor vetoes the same.
