Title

To urge the Ohio General Assembly to enact legalization legislation implementing the key principles of the Energy, Jobs and Progress for Ohio Program  and to ensure access to adequate and affordable energy service for the citizens of Columbus and all Ohioans.

 

Body

 

WHEREAS, Ohio Governor Ted Strickland has proposed the Energy, Jobs and Progress for Ohio Program, which articulates key principles to guide the development of an Ohio Energy Compact that will ensure Ohio's electricity security now and for future generations; and

 

WHEREAS, the production and use of electricity is an essential element of Ohio's economy, and ensuring access to an adequate, affordable energy supply is a basic responsibility of government; and

 

WHEREAS, decisions on how we generate, distribute and price electricity are vital to the development of new industries, rewarding jobs and a safer, cleaner and healthier environment; and

 

WHEREAS, key stakeholder groups have and continue to meet to discuss different perspectives on the electricity challenge and consider all possible solutions to secure Ohio's energy future; and

 

WHEREAS, the Energy, Jobs and Progress for Ohio Program is a non-partisan plan that will treat all stakeholders fairly, protect jobs, stimulate economic growth and protect our environment; and

 

WHEREAS, the Ohio General Assembly is considering legislation which encompasses the principles outlined in the Energy, Jobs and Progress for Ohio Program that will: protect jobs by ensuring stable and predictable energy prices; support the creation of new jobs by encouraging advanced energy production; and safeguard our community through investments in Ohio's electricity infrastructure; now, therefore                     

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:

 

That this council urges the Ohio General Assembly to enact legalization implementing the key principles of the Energy, Jobs and Progress for Ohio Program, and to ensure access to adequate and affordable energy service for the citizens of Columbus and all Ohioans.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that copies of this Resolution shall be presented to Ted Strickland, the Governor of the State of Ohio, John Husted, Speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives, and Bill Harris, President of the Ohio Senate.
