To recognize the Paulist Fathers at St. Thomas More Newman Center for 50 Years of Service to the Diocese of Columbus and the students of Ohio State University.
Body
WHEREAS the Paulist Fathers began their service to the University district in 1956 with the formation of the Newman Club; and
WHEREAS the Paulist Fathers have provided a spiritual foundation for tens of thousands of OSU students and Columbus citizens; and
WHEREAS the current Paulist Fathers, including Father Lawrence Rice, Father Vincent McKiernan, Father Charles Cunniff and Father David O'Brien focus their attention on serving our community's great diversity; and
WHEREAS, the Paulist Fathers work to embrace contemporary American culture through the guidance of the Holy Spirit; and
WHEREAS, the Paulist Fathers reflect their spiritual gifts through special focus areas which include ecumenism, reconciliation, and evangelization; and
WHEREAS, the Paulist Fathers have introduced a variety of Ministries to the OSU community, serving the poor, the sick, the imprisoned, the homeless, and the hungry, or those wanting to share their faith, serve the community or develop new skills; and
WHEREAS, the Paulist Fathers' approach to campus ministry seeks to welcome students into every aspect of our community, providing opportunities for spiritual growth, sacramental worship, service to the poor, and social occasions to meet and get to know other Catholic students at OSU; and
WHEREAS, the Paulist Fathers provide for a large and vibrant community of people the opportunity to deepen their faith, and their connections with others; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
That the Columbus City Council expresses its deep appreciation to the Paulist Fathers for their dedication and service to the citizens and students of the City of Columbus, Ohio.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution will be presented to Father Lawrence Rice as a token of our esteem.
