To recognize the 100th Anniversary of the Junior League of Columbus.

WHEREAS, since its founding in 1901 in New York, the Junior League has evolved into one of the largest and most effective volunteer women’s organizations in the world with more than 125,000 women in more than 295 Leagues in four countries; and
WHEREAS, today, the Junior League of Columbus, founded on February 1, 1923, is recognizing its own century of service; and
WHEREAS, originally, 11 women who had been given the right to vote three years earlier formed the Junior League of Columbus to grow their talents and leadership skills and to give back to their community addressing some of its toughest problems; and
WHEREAS, today, the Junior League of Columbus has more than 400 members dedicated to community service and training volunteers to make a difference in the lives of others; and
WHEREAS, dedicated to the Junior League’s legacy, members are still at the forefront of addressing issues and focusing on helping to guide, advocate, and provide for Ohio youth who are aging out of foster care; and
WHEREAS, throughout the century, the Junior League has generously founded and supported hundreds of programs and projects in central Ohio; including but not limited to Columbus Landmarks Foundation, OWjL Camp, Columbus Children's Theatre, ACTION for Children, Greater Columbus Arts Council, Center for New Directions, CASA (Court-Appointed Special Advocates), and
WHEREAS, the Junior League of Columbus is also dedicated to preserving the history of the 1852 Kelton House Museum and Garden that was part of the Underground Railroad; and
WHEREAS, in keeping with the spirit of community involvement, members of the Junior League of Columbus are celebrating their 100th anniversary by engaging in projects and activities throughout the city and reconnecting with past members and partners while strengthening the Junior League’s membership and foundation for the future; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this Council does hereby recognize the 100th anniversary of the Junior League of Columbus and expresses gratitude to all members of the Junior League for their outstanding contributions and service to the residents of Columbus, Ohio.
