WHEREAS, Donald “Don” DePerro, born on August 19, 1958, is lovingly remembered by his wife, Lia; his children, Adam (Kat) of Dublin, Ohio, Amanda (Max Buchwalder) of Toledo, Ohio, and Michael (Courtney Melick) of Hartford, Connecticut; his siblings, Henry J. “Hank” (Barbara) Jr., Jennie Brummer, and Lucille DePerro; his cherished grandcat, Beemo; as well as many nieces, nephews, colleagues, and friends; and

 

WHEREAS, Don was a graduate of St. Joe’s Collegiate Institute and Buffalo State University with a BA Degree in Journalism and was proud to spend 35 years of his career as a journalist; and

 

WHEREAS, in his role as President and CEO of The Columbus Chamber of Commerce, Don demonstrated exceptional leadership, increasing Chamber membership from 1,200 to nearly 2,500 over nine years, while fostering growth, collaboration, and prosperity within the Columbus Region; and

 

WHEREAS, Don was a passionate advocate for the Columbus business community, championing initiatives that supported small businesses, economic growth, and workforce development, leaving a legacy that continues to benefit the region; and

 

WHEREAS, Don was known for his warmth and dedication, forging strong connections with countless individuals, from Chamber members to community leaders, and inspiring many with his leadership; and                       

 

WHEREAS, Don’s contributions extended beyond the professional realm, as he was a cherished husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend who valued family above all else, bringing joy, love, and laughter to those closest to him; and

 

WHEREAS, Don’s enduring legacy serves as a reminder of the profound impact one individual can have on their community, and his memory will continue to inspire future generations of leaders and visionaries; and

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: This Council respectfully acknowledges and commemorates the life of Donald DePerro, recognizing his impactful contributions to the city, and extends our deepest condolences to his family and friends.
