Title

 

To recognize and honor Dr. J.S. Jindal for receiving Enduring Hope Award for his lifelong dedication to spiritual growth, interfaith understanding, and the promotion of cultural and moral values that have enriched the social and religious fabric of Central Ohio.

 

Body

 

WHEREAS, In the 1970s, Dr. Jindal hosted monthly Sri Satyanarayan Katha gatherings to preserve and share Hindu teachings and traditions, creating a welcoming space for Sanatan families across Central Ohio to connect through faith and community; and

 

WHEREAS, In 1981, Dr. Jindal co- founded the Spiritual Sadhna Society, which became a cornerstone for advancing religious education, cultural awareness, and social service, and

 

WHEREAS, In 1983, Dr. Jindal under the banner of Spiritual Sadhna Society sponsored Pt. Jagmohan ji Maharaj from India and arranged Ramayan Recitation Program in eleven states, and

 

WHEREAS, In 1984, Dr. Jindal under the banner of Spiritual Sadhna Society invited and sponsored Dr. S. N. Goenka ji, founder of ‘Vipassana Meditation’ in India, and organized his lectures to introduce Vipassana Meditation to the broader public of greater Columbus, and

 

WHEREAS, In December 1987 Dr. Jindal with other faith leaders organized prayers for the success of ‘Pres. Reagan and Gen. Secy. Gorbachev’s summit to sign the ‘INF’ treaty, and

 

WHEREAS, In 1989 Dr. Jindal with Dr. Rev. Lesli Stansbery, Rabbi Howard Apothaker and  Dr. Kas Mohammad co-founded Interfaith Association of Central Ohio, to promoting education, moral values, and cross-cultural understanding, bringing people of diverse backgrounds together through dialogue, shared learning, and spiritual reflection; and

 

WHEREAS, In October 2020, with the support of Columbus City Council President Shannon Hardin, Dr. Jindal helped establish the official recognition and celebration of Diwali, the Sanatan Hindu Festival of Lights; now, therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this Council does hereby recognize and honor Dr. J.S. Jindal for his enduring commitment to interfaith collaboration, and for his exceptional contributions to the moral and cultural fabric of the Columbus community.
