Explanation

 

This legislation authorizes the Director of Public Utilities to renew the Department of Utilities' (DPU) membership with the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA) for 2025-2026. NACWA represents the interests of the country's wastewater treatment agencies, maintains a key role in the development of environmental legislation, and works closely with federal regulatory agencies in the implementation of environmental programs. NACWA is a nationally recognized leader in environmental policy and a sought-after technical resource on water quality and ecosystem protection. The membership renewal will provide direct and timely access to this information. The membership is for one (1) year, from October 1, 2025 through September 30, 2026.

WHEREAS, it is necessary to renew the Department of Public Utilities' membership with the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA) for 2025-2026; and

WHEREAS, NACWA represents the interests of the country's wastewater treatment agencies, maintains a key role in the development of environmental legislation, works closely with federal regulatory agencies in the implementation of environmental programs, and is a nationally recognized leader in environmental policy and sought-after technical resource on water quality and ecosystem protection; and

WHEREAS, membership provides direct and timely access to this information and other NACWA resources; and

WHEREAS, the expenditure of $60,640.00, or so much thereof as may be needed, is hereby authorized in Fund 6100, Sewer Operating Sanitary Fund, in object class 03, Services, per the accounting codes in the attachment to this ordinance; and

WHEREAS, it has become necessary in the usual daily operation of the Department of Public Utilities, to authorize the Director of Public Utilities to renew the membership with the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA); NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:

SECTION l. That the Director of the Department of Public Utilities is hereby authorized to renew the membership to the National Association of Clean Water Agencies, 1130 Connecticut Ave NW, Washington, DC 20036, for 2025-2026, for the Department of Public Utilities.

SECTION 2. That the expenditure of $60,640.00, or so much thereof as may be needed, is hereby authorized in Fund 6100, Sewer Operating Sanitary Fund, in object class 03, Services, per the accounting codes in the attachment to this ordinance

SECTION 3. That the funds necessary to carry out the purpose of this ordinance are hereby deemed appropriated and the City Auditor shall establish such accounting codes as necessary.

SECTION 4. That this ordinance shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
