Explanation

 

This ordinance authorizes a sponsorship/grant in the amount of $15,000.00 between the City of Columbus Department of Neighborhoods and Dress for Success Columbus, a 501(c)(3) Not for Profit, in support of the 2024 Level Up Summit.

In 2007, Dress for Success Columbus (DFSC) launched on a mission to empower women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire, and the development tools to help them thrive in work and in life.

 

This event will offer a free one-day personal and professional development conference designed to build skilled leaders and equip women for long-term career success.  Hosted by Columbus State Community College on March 2, 2024, the conference will feature a nationally renowned, motivational speaker, and attendees will have the opportunity to participate in breakout learning sessions including resume reviews and one-on-one career coaching, a job fair featuring various local employers, a pop-up shop highlighting new workplace trends, free professional headshots, and the opportunity to network and engage with leaders across the community.

 

Emergency Action is necessary to avoid causing interruptions in the delivery of engagement.

Fiscal Impact: Funding in the amount of $15,000.00 is available on BRPO002623.

To authorize the Director of the Department of Neighborhoods to enter into a sponsorship grant agreement; to authorize the expenditure of $15,000.00 from the general fund, Office of Diversity and Inclusion, using BRPO002623; and to declare an emergency. ($15,000.00)

Body

 

WHEREAS, Dress for Success Columbus (DFSC) launched in 2007, on a mission to empower women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire, and the development tools to help them thrive in work and in life; and

WHEREAS, the Dress for Success Columbus is holding the third annual Level Up Summit on March 2, 2024; and

WHEREAS, the support of the City of Columbus and Department of Neighborhoods Commission on Black Girls align with the goals and mission of Dress for Success Columbus; and

WHEREAS, it has become necessary in the usual daily operation of the Department of Neighborhoods for the Director to enter into a grant agreement with Dress for Success Columbus for the 2024 Level Up Summit in the amount of $15,000.00, to avoid causing interruptions in the delivery of the annual engagement, all for the immediate preservation of the public health, peace, property, safety and welfare, and

WHEREAS, an emergency exists in the usual daily operation of the Department of Neighborhoods in that it is immediately necessary to authorize the Director to enter into a sponsorship grant agreement to avoid causing interruptions in the delivery of engagement, and now, therefore

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:

SECTION 1. That the Director of the Department of Neighborhoods is authorized to enter into a sponsorship grant agreement with Dress for Success Columbus and to expend $15,000.00 in advance of the event in support of the 2024 Level Up Summit, from Office of Diversity and Inclusion General Fund, using BRPO002623. ($15,000.00)

SECTION 2. That this contract is entered into under the provisions of Columbus City Code Chapter 329 regarding nonprofit contracts.

SECTION 3. That the funds necessary to carry out the purpose of this ordinance are deemed appropriated, and the City Auditor shall establish such accounting codes as necessary.

SECTION 4. That the City Auditor is authorized to make any accounting changes to revise the funding source for all contracts or contract modifications associated with this ordinance and to make any accounting changes necessary to ensure that these contracts are properly accounted for and recorded accurately on the City’s financial records.

SECTION 5.  That for the reasons stated in the preamble hereto, which is hereby made a part hereof, this ordinance is hereby declared to be an emergency measure and shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage and approved by the Mayor or ten days after passage if the Mayor neither approves nor vetoes the same.
