Explanation
This ordinance will authorize the Director of Public Safety to accept a donation of (1) Blood Alcohol Count (BAC) Truck for the Division of Police. The BAC Truck will become a City of Columbus Asset and a part of the department’s fleet and will be brass tagged as a city asset.
Background: AB In-Bev Foundation has partnered with the Division of Police to reduce harmful drinking. AB In-Bev Foundation is donating a BAC Truck to be used by the Traffic Operations Section to respond to the scenes of OVI arrests. This truck will expedite the processing time for violators, and reduce lost time transporting violators around to be processed and tested, allowing officers more time on patrol processing other violators. The truck's retail value is $159,919.00 and has been approved by the Division of Fleet Management.

Fiscal Impact: This vehicle is a donation to the City of Columbus. It is a new vehicle, completely outfitted and therefore will have no immediate significant fiscal impact on the City's financial resources.

WHEREAS, the Public Safety Department, Division of Police will receive a donation of (1) BAC Truck from AB In-Bev Foundation to respond to the scenes of OVI arrests to expedite processing violators; a brass tag for equipment and expansion of fleet will be submitted to the Division of Fleet Management; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Columbus Fleet Division has approved the specifications of the donated BAC Truck; and,
WHEREAS, it has become necessary in the usual daily operation of the Department of Public Safety to authorize the Director to accept a donation of one (1) BAC Truck from Farber Specialty Vehicles to be donated to be a dedicated resource for storage and transportation; now, therefore:
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
SECTION 1. That the Director of Public Safety is hereby authorized to accept the donation of (1) BAC Truck from AB In-Bev Foundation to respond to the scenes of OVI arrests to expedite processing violators.
SECTION 2. That the Director of Finance and Management Fleet Division is hereby authorized to expand and add to its fleet due to a donation of (1) BAC Truck on behalf of the Public Safety Department, Division of Police.
SECTION 3. That this ordinance shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
