BACKGROUND:
This ordinance authorizes the City Clerk to modify a grant agreement with People Like Me Project, Inc. for the Outlet Basketball program and to extend the agreement term to August 30, 2024. The current agreement term ends February 26, 2024.

On July 31, 2023, Columbus City Council passed Ordinance 2284-2023 to enter into a grant agreement with People Like Me Project, Inc. for $5,500 in support of the Outlet Basketball program.
During the 2023 program year, People Like Me faced challenges related to the initial venue selected for the basketball program. With the extension, the additional time will allow People Like Me to operate the program in a newly selected venue that will be consistently available for the basketball programming. It will also allow for summer youth programming. This legislation will extend the agreement term to August 30, 2024.
People Like Me provides a transformative community-based learning initiative to local youth, ages 10 to 16, through The Outlet Basketball program. Through meticulously designed curriculum and expert coaching staff, People Like Me provides participants with an immersive experience that not only enhances their basketball skills but cultivates valuable life skills such as teamwork, discipline, resilience, and leadership.
Emergency action is requested in order to allow the grant modification to be executed before the existing grant term expires.

WHEREAS, due to challenges with the selected venue for programming, People Like Me found it necessary to modify the program schedule and was not able to complete the program as originally planned; and
WHEREAS, the City Clerk desires to extend the term of the grant agreement with People Like Me Project, Inc. for the Outlet Basketball program so the program can be completed; and
WHEREAS, an emergency exists in the usual daily operation of the City Clerk in that it is immediately necessary to authorize the City Clerk to modify a grant agreement in order to prevent the grant agreement from expiring, all for the immediate preservation of the public health, peace, property, safety and welfare; and NOW, THERFORE
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
SECTION 1. That the City Clerk is hereby authorized to modify a grant agreement with People Like Me Project, Inc. to extend the agreement term for the Outlet Basketball program.
SECTION 2. That for the reasons stated in the preamble hereto, which is hereby made a part hereof, this Ordinance is hereby declared to be an emergency measure and shall take effect and be in force from and after its approval by the Mayor, or ten days after passage if the Mayor neither approves nor vetoes the same.
