1. BACKGROUND:
A. Need; The Columbus Division of Fire received a grant award from the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio for hazardous materials training. It is necessary to accept the grant award and appropriate funds.

2. FISCAL IMPACT:
Matching funds, amounting to 10% of the grant, will come from the Hazardous Materials Incident Reimbursement Fund . Separate legislation will transfer funds for this purpose. The matching funds amount is $ 2,023.50.

To authorize the Columbus Fire Chief to accept a grant award from the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio for Hazardous Materials Training for the Division of Fire, and to appropriate $18,211.50 from the unappropriated balance of the General Government Grant Fund.

WHEREAS, the Columbus Division of Fire received a grant award from the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio for Hazardous Materials Training; and
WHEREAS, this is a 90% grant that requires a 10% cash match; and
WHEREAS, a situation exists in the Department of Public Safety, Division of Fire, in that it is necessary to authorize the acceptance of a grant for Hazardous Materials Training and appropriate funds for said grant in order to preserve the public health, peace, property, safety, and welfare; Now, therefore
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS
Section 1. That the Fire Chief of the City of Columbus be and he is hereby authorized and directed to accept a grant award from the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio for Hazardous Materials Training of Columbus Firefighters.
Section 2. That from the unappropriated monies in the General Government Grant Fund and from all monies estimated to come into said fund from any and all sources and unappropriated for any other purpose during the fiscal year ending December 31, 2005, the sum of $18,211.50 is appropriated as follows:
Division: 30-04, Fund 220, Grant # 345005, OCA # 345005

Section 3. That this ordinance shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
