To recognize, commend, and thank Joseph F. Busch for his distinguished service to Columbus' citizens, the Building Industry and his fellow employees, and to wish him well in his retirement.
 
 
 
Body
 
WHEREAS, Joseph F. Busch, Chief Building Official for the City of Columbus, will be retiring December 31, 2005; and
 
WHEREAS, Joe is known throughout the Building Industry as a noted expert on both the State of Ohio and the City of Columbus Building Code, displaying the kind of attitude and enthusiasm that gets the job done; and
 
WHEREAS, Joe has a Bachelor of Architecture Design, is a registered architect in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Florida, and a certified holder of NCARB (National Association of Architectural Registration Board); and
 
WHEREAS, Joe began his professional career in 1955 as a Bridge Designer for the Iowa Highway Commission; and
 
WHEREAS, Joe was 1st Lt. in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and taught courses on Military Fixed Bridges at engineering school in Fort Belvoir, VA (1955-1957); and
 
WHEREAS, Joe was an architect for hospital and educational facility projects in Madison, Wisconsin (1957-1962); and
 
WHEREAS, Joe was staff architect responsible for 1.2 million sq. ft. expansion for Packard Electric Division of General Motors in Warren, OH (1962-1968); and
 
WHEREAS, Joe was owner and principal of Joseph F. Busch & Association Architects & Engineers (1968-1991); and
 
WHEREAS, Joe was State Architect for the State of Ohio from 1991 - 1994; and
 
WHEREAS, in 1994 Joe was the Field Supervision Architect for the Tandy Corporation responsible for 10 million dollar project in Hilliard, OH known as "the Incredible Universe"; and
 
WHEREAS, in 1995 Joe was appointed as Chief Building Official for the City of Columbus, Ohio, managing a staff of approximately 100 people of the Building Department and overseeing the code review, permitting and field inspection services for the residential and commercial construction industry; and
 
WHEREAS, Joe has received professional recognition many times including "Building Official of the Year 1999", 2001 Nominee for "Who's Who of Public Service" and the 2001 BX-Cornerstone Award; and
 
WHEREAS, Joe has served as Director of AIA Columbus and President and Vice President of COCOA (Central Ohio Code Officials Association); and
 
WHEREAS, his legacy of service and dedication will live on as a worthy example for others to follow; now, therefore,
 
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
 
 
That this Council hereby recognizes Joseph F. Busch's years of excellent service to the City of Columbus and the Building Industry and wishes him a happy, healthy retirement.
