Title

To Honor and Celebrate the Retirement of Marcia Palof and Thank her for her Service to the Residents of the City of Columbus

Body

WHEREAS, this Council honors and recognizes Marcia Palof for her outstanding service to her community by giving her skills, energy, time, and commitment toward the betterment of the City of Columbus in her role as manager of the Intake team at Legal Aid of Southeast and Central Ohio; and

WHEREAS, while in law school at The Ohio State University, Marcia got her start at LASCO, then LASC, through the summer clerkship program in 1978. She joined LASCO as a full-time staff member in 1980 and rose to her current position of intake manager in 1985; and

WHEREAS, Marcia and her intake team meticulously oversaw applicant requests for services and worked to collect as much accurate information from as many people as possible to determine whether LASCO will be able to serve them or not. If they could not be served by LASCO, she oversaw referrals to other organizations that are better suited to meet the clients’ needs with care and attention; and

WHEREAS, Marcia and her team were also charged with identifying trends in client needs that can be used to improve the overall quality of LASCO’s practice and sought out areas of the law where LASCO needs a larger presence; and

WHEREAS, Marcia gave her time and attention to many justice-focused organizations, including PACO Wills Clinics at senior facilities throughout the area and monthly Brief Advice Clinics at Broad Street United Methodist Church. She was on the Columbus State Paralegal Studies Committee from 2017 until her recent retirement from the committee, and was part of the founding group for the National Coalition for a Civil Right to Counsel (NCCRC) and served on the steering committee until recently; and

WHEREAS, Marcia’s service and expertise will be greatly missed by her coworkers and community; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this Council honors and celebrates Marcia Palof on her well-earned retirement and her service to the City of Columbus and wishes her the best of luck in her future endeavors.
