Explanation
BACKGROUND: This ordinance authorizes the Director of Recreation and Parks to enter into a contract with Kone, Inc. for the maintenance and service of elevators in various city facilities under the purview of the Recreation and Parks Department. Kone, Inc. has been the current elevator maintenance and service provider for the last five years. This contract expired at the end of March 2008 and was therefore re-bid. This contract will have five renewal options. Kone, Inc. was again the lowest and best bidder.
Formal bids (SA002929) were received from three companies on June 17, 2008 as follows (0 MBE, 0 FBE)
Kone, Inc. $16,800.00
Schindler Elevator $27,624.00
Oracle Elevator $28,637.76
The Recreation and Parks Department recommends the contract be awarded to the most responsive and responsible and best bidder, Kone, Inc. John Blatt Elevator Consultants helped the Department review the bids and also determined Kone, Inc. to be most responsive and responsible bidder.
Emergency action is requested so that required maintenance and service on elevators is not delayed, ensuring no disruption in service, thereby protecting the safety of elevator users.
Fiscal Impact: The cost of the contract is $16,800.00, plus $3,200.00 fixed contingency for a grand total of $20,000.00.
This expenditure is budgeted in the Recreation and Parks' Operating fund 285 for a $20,000.00 expense.
Kone, Inc. Contract Compliance Number 36-2357423, expiration 7/13/2008.
