This is a ceremonial resolution of expression to provide recognition for public and private purchasing professionals.  These individuals participate in a considerable amount of business and commerce in Central Ohio.  Their work positively impacts the ability of business, industry and government to deliver goods and services to customers.

To recognize and celebrate March as "Purchasing Month" and to commend the public and private purchasing and supply management professionals for their unwavering commitment to excellence.
 
Body
 
WHEREAS, purchasing and supply management professionals, through their combined purchasing power, spend billions of dollars every year and exert significant influence upon economic conditions throughout the nation; and
 
WHEREAS, hundreds of local public and private purchasing and supply organizations improve our regional flow of commerce through education, networking and shared best practices; and
 
WHEREAS, The City of Columbus participates with regional purchasing partners to aggregate purchasing needs, thereby maximizing local resources; and
 
WHEREAS, The Central Ohio Organization of Public Purchasers (CO-OPP), the Institute for Supply Management - Central Ohio, Inc., and other professional purchasing associations throughout the world engage in special efforts during the month of March to inform the public of the pivotal role played by purchasing professionals in business, industry, and government; and
 
WHEREAS, our City of Columbus Finance and Management Department Purchasing Office acts as a key leader in developing and implementing a purchasing system of quality and integrity that maximizes the value of public funds and provides fair and equitable treatment to all persons involved in the city's supply chain; and
 
WHEREAS, The City of Columbus City Council joins all purchasing professionals in business, industry, and government to celebrate March as "Purchasing Month"; now, therefore:
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
 
That this Council does hereby recognize and commend members of both public and private purchasing organizations for their commitment to excellence in the purchasing profession.
