Title
To honor and recognize Bishop Vinton R. Anderson and
Episcopal Supervisor Vivienne Anderson and welcome them to Columbus, Ohio for Health and Wellness Weekend at St. Paul AME Church
Body
WHEREAS, this Council welcomes Bishop and Mrs. Anderson to Columbus, Ohio for the Health and Wellness Weekend Celebration at St. Paul AME Church; and,
WHEREAS, Bishop and Mrs. Anderson are both natives of Bermuda. They have been serving the Lord in ministry for over 53 years. Bishop Anderson was ordained an Itinerant Elder in 1952 and elected the 92nd Bishop of the Church in 1972 at the General Conference in Dallas, Texas. Bishop and Mrs. Anderson served in the 9th, 3rd, 5th and 2nd Episcopal Districts. Together as a ministering and administrative couple, they served the 3rd District from 1976 through 1984. Bishop Anderson ordained Rev. Dr. Michael Bean an Itinerant Deacon and Elder. He was also conferred his first student pastorate and his first full time pastorate by Bishop Anderson. Bishop and Mrs. Anderson hold very special places in Rev. Bean's heart; and,
WHEREAS, Bishop and Mrs. Anderson have many accomplishments worthy of mention. Bishop Anderson chaired the Commission on Worship and Liturgy that was responsible for putting out the Bi-Centennial Hymnal and the first ever AME Book of Worship. On a global level, at the conclusion of the 1984 Annual Conference, Bishop Anderson was assigned to the Office of Ecumenical Affairs and Urban Relations. In this position he became the endorsing agent of AME Chaplains in the United States Selective Service and became the spokesperson for this denomination in many areas. It was also during this period that Bishop Anderson became President of the World Council of Churches. He was the first African-American to be elected to this position; and,
WHEREAS, this weekend celebration at St. Paul AME Church encourages people to believe that something other than curative measures are at work to keep them well; such as hope and having a meaningful purpose in life; and,
WHEREAS, this Council also commends the Health Concerns Committee and the Rev. Dr. Michael R. Bean, Sr. Pastor of St. Paul AME Church, for their commitment to promote wholeness of mind, body and spirit within the congregation and the greater community by hosting this celebratory weekend of events. This committee also seeks to be highly effective in impacting health outcomes by facilitating healing and wholeness through ways in which cure and medical treatment may not be possible. They promote harmony and growth through increased self-knowledge, stewardship and interdependence with people and acceptance of God's love. We also commend them for their efforts to build a Multi-Purpose/Wellness Center; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
that we honor and recognize Bishop Vinton R. Anderson and Episcopal Supervisor Vivienne Anderson to Columbus, Ohio For Health and Wellness Weekend at St. Paul AME.
