Explanation

 

BACKGROUND:  The Division of Water would like to amend Chapter 1105 of the Columbus City Codes, 1959, regarding amounts charged for specific special services furnished by the Division of water pertaining to meter work.  The Division of Water performs trips to repair, disconnect, test, reconnect, exchange and install meters.  The Division of Water would like to increase the amounts charged for these services, as current charges are inadequate to cover the cost of these services.

 

FISCAL IMPACT:  The impact of this legislation may result in increased revenues, estimated to be approximately $2,000 annually.

 

 

Title

 

To amend Chapter 1105 of the Columbus City Codes, 1959, regarding special charges for meter related work.

 

 

 

Body

 

WHEREAS, the Division of Water performs trips to repair, disconnect, test, reconnect, exchange and install meters, and

 

WHEREAS, the amounts charged prior to enactment of this legislation are inadequate to cover the costs of the specific services mentioned, and

 

WHEREAS, it is necessary to increase the charged amounts as detailed in this legislation, and

 

WHEREAS, it has become necessary in the usual daily operation of the Division of Water, Department of Public Utilities, to authorize the Council of the City of Columbus to amend Chapter 1105 of the Columbus City Codes, to increase charges for special services pertaining to certain types of meter work, for the preservation of public health, peace, prosperity, safety; now, therefore,

 

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:

 

Section 1.  That Section 1105.09 of the Columbus City Codes, 1959, be amended by changing the following language:

 

1105.09  Special Charges

 

E. Service charge to repair meter damaged by customer abuse, tampering, freezing, or hot water. (Plus actual cost of repair or new metering system, if required.)

 

During regular working hours:  $30.00                            $33.00

After regular working hours:  $35.00            $50.00

 

 

G. Testing of meter at request of customer:

 

(1) Where meter does not test within ninety-seven (97) percent and one hundred three (103) percent accuracy

 

None

 

(2) Where meter tests within ninety-seven (97) percent and one hundred three (103) percent accuracy

 

$30.00                                          $40.00

 

 

Section 2. That this Ordinance shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
