Explanation

The purpose of this legislation is to authorize the Director of Public Utilities to modify and increase the contract for Electric Motor Services with Marion Electric Motors for the Division of Sewerage and Drainage, Jackson Pike Wastewater Treatment Plant and Southerly Wastewater Treatment Plant. The initial contract language provided for two (2) extensions on a year to year basis. This is the first extension to this contract. The new expiration date will be April 30, 2007.

The Director of Public Utilities opened formal bids on March 9, 2005. Three (3) bids were received: Marion Electric Motors, Mid-Ohio Electric and HP Thompson. An award was made to lowest, responsive and responsible bidder, Marion Electric Motors. This contract is utilized by the Division of Sewerage and Drainage wastewater treatment plants for repair and refurbishing of small and large motors that are used throughout the plant to operate various equipment. A tabulation of the bids is attached.

Fiscal Impact: $100,000.00 is budgeted and needed for this service

$110,000.00 was spent in 2005.

Title

To authorize the Director of Public Utilities to modify and increase the contracts for Electric Motor Services with Marion Electric Motors for the Division of Sewerage and Drainage and to authorize the expenditure of $100,000.00 from the Sewerage System Operating Fund. ($100,000.00)

Body

WHEREAS, the Division of Sewerage and Drainage requires Electric Motor Service to repair and refurbish small and large motors that operate various equipment in the two wastewater treatment plants, and

WHEREAS, the Director of Public Utilities opened formal bids on March 9, 2005 for Electric Motor Services, and

WHEREAS, the award of the contract was to the lowest, responsive and responsible bidder, Marion Electric Motors, and

WHEREAS, the contract language allows for two (2) extensions on a year to year basis and this request is for the first of such extension, and

WHEREAS, this modification will create a new expiration date of April 30, 2007, now, therefore

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:

Section 1. That the Director of Public Utilities be and is hereby authorized to modify and increase the contracts with Marion Electric Motors for Electric Motor Services for the Division of Sewerage and Drainage.

Section 2. That the expenditure of $100,000.00 or so much thereof as may be needed, be and the same hereby is authorized from the Sewerage System Operating Fund, Fund No. 650 as follows:

Southerly Wastewater Treatment Plant
