Explanation
BACKGROUND: The City Historic Preservation Officer is charged with reviewing and recommending approval of applications submitted to the Ohio Historic Preservation Office (OHPO) for funding of preservation projects proposed for properties and sites located in the City of Columbus.
An application has been made by the Columbus Landmarks Foundation to prepare and complete a National Register of Historic Places nomination for the North Columbus commercial district, a town established in 1842 and annexed to the City of Columbus in 1871. Based on the historic and architectural information provided in the CLG Grant Application submitted for Fiscal Year 2009, the project is recommended for approval by the City Historic Preservation Officer, identified as the CLG Grant Project Coordinator.
FISCAL IMPACT: No funding is required for this legislation.
Title
To approve the Certified Local Government Grant for the preparation of an historic district nomination to the National Register of Historic Places for the commercial district of North Columbus for Funding Year 2009; and that the Historic Preservation Officer shall act as the Grant Project Coordinator.
Body
WHEREAS, the Historic Preservation Officer is charged, in part, with identifying structures and neighborhoods of historic and architectural significance, maintaining a list of these structures and other historic resources, and providing assistance with appropriate listing methods and procedures, and
WHEREAS, the Historic Preservation Officer is identified as the Grant Project Coordinator for projects which are selected for Certified Local Government Funding within the City of Columbus; and
WHEREAS, an application has been submitted to the Ohio Historic Preservation Office for the preparation of a complete National Register of Historic Places nomination for the North Columbus commercial district; and
WHEREAS, the Ohio Historic Preservation Office (OHPO) has recommended approval of the proposal submitted by the Columbus Landmarks Foundation; and
WHEREAS, the final product will be a complete National Register of Historic Places nomination complying with the Secretary of Interior's Standards for Evaluation and Registration; and
WHEREAS, the Columbus Historic Preservation Officer therefore recommends approval of the Certified Local Government Grant to Columbus City Council; now, therefore,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
Section 1. That Council approves the Certified Local Government Grant for the preparation of the nomination of the commercial district of North Columbus as submitted to the Ohio Historic Preservation Office.
Section 2. That the Historic Preservation Officer shall act as the Grant Project Coordinator.
Section 3. That this ordinance shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
