Explanation

BACKGROUND: This legislation will authorize the Department of Technology (DoT) Director to modify and extend an annual contract for services related to software maintenance and support, with Veritas Software Global, LLC.   The Veritas software system has been employed within multiple City agencies.  Now, the City has a need to maintain this software application that supports city business operation systems; provide information backup; system recovery services; and provide a foundation for future disaster recovery capabilities.

Services provided under this agreement will include telephone support, software updates and maintenance support, with a coverage period of April 1, 2006 through March 31, 2007, in the amount of $57,957.53.

FISCAL IMPACT: Fiscal year 2004, $51,516.78 was expended toward services provided by Veritas Software Global, LLC.  During 2005 the department expended $65,710.00 for related services.  Funding for this ordinance, in the amount of $$57,957.53, is budgeted and available within the 2006 Department of Technology, information services fund, with a coverage period from April 1, 2006 through March 31, 2007.

Title

To authorize the Department of Technology Director to modify and extend a contract with Veritas Software Global, LLC, for software maintenance and support; to authorize the expenditure of $57,957.53 from the Department of Technology, information services fund ($57,957.53)

Body

WHEREAS, this legislation will authorize the Department of Technology (DoT) Director to modify and extend an annual contract associated with purchase order EL003556, for services related to software maintenance and support, with Veritas Software Global, LLC.; and

WHEREAS, the City has a need to maintain Veritas software, that  has been employed within multiple City agencies, that supports city business operation systems; provide information backup; system recovery services; and provide a foundation for future disaster recovery capabilities; and  

WHEREAS, services provided under this agreement will include telephone support, software updates and maintenance support, with a coverage period of April 1, 2006 through March 31, 2007, in the amount of $57,957.53; and

WHEREAS, it is necessary to authorize this contract modification to facilitate prompt contract execution and related payment for software maintenance services associated with the Veritas software to ensure continued support for essential City systems, thereby preserving the public health, peace, property, safety, and welfare; now, therefore:

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:

SECTION 1: That the Director of the Department of Technology be and is hereby authorized to modify and extend an annual contract with VERITAS Software Global Corporation for software maintenance and support in the amount not to exceed $57,957.53.

SECTION 2:  That the expenditure of $57,957.53 or so much thereof as may be necessary is hereby authorized to be expended from:
