..Explanation

Background:

The National Recreation and Parks Association will award $15,000.00 as part of the NRPA Parks: Return and Restore grant program.  This grant is for the purchase of adapted equipment needed to include our Veterans in our Fitness and Adapted Sports program.  The Fitness and Adapted Sports program is part of the Columbus Recreation and Parks Therapeutic Recreation Section housed at the Franklin Park Adventure Center.  We currently serve a small number of Veterans in the community, but with the purchase of this equipment, we will be able to serve many more.

Columbus Recreation and Parks is partnering with Buckeye Paralyzed Veterans of America, the Mayor's office of Veterans Affairs, and Paralympic Sport Club Columbus to offer this program to our Veterans. We have the accessible titness equipment through other funds secured through our Paralympic Sport Club.  This grant money will afford us the opportunity to purchase the necessary adapted equipment needed for the program.

Fiscal Impact:  $15,000.00 appropriated to fund 291, OCA TBD.
