To acknowledge and congratulate The Reinhard Block Club and the area known as Ganthers Place for winning a national award from Keep America Beautiful at its 53rd National Conference.

Whereas, the City of Columbus recognizes the The Reinhard Block Club for their spirited re-vitalization and beautification of an area known as "Ganthers Place" located along Reinhard Avenue between Parsons Avenue and Anne Street; and
 
Whereas, the City of Columbus acknowledge and congratulate residents of "Ganthers Place" for winning second place and national recognition from Keep America Beautiful in the category of  Beautification and Community Improvement for Nonprofit, Civic, Community Organizations.
 
Whereas, the City of Columbus allocates public resources to aid in the growth, development and protection of Columbus neighborhoods citywide; and
 
Whereas, the City of Columbus is promoting and encouraging environmental stewardship through the "Get Green Columbus" initiative; and
 
Whereas, The City of Columbus applauds the efforts of the residents of Ganthers Place, especially Mr. Alan Carrel, Mr. Ken Williams and the Reinhard Block Club to effectively utilize city resources, engage neighbors in social responsibility and build support from within the area's business community to improve the appearance of their neighborhood and thereby the quality of life in the area by sprucing up their homes, lawns, creating gardens and planting trees; and
Whereas, Keep Columbus Beautiful, a unique arm of the Refuse Collection Division, who's mission is to promote litter prevention, neighborhood cleanups, beautification efforts, graffiti abatement, voluntary recycling, and community pride for the City of Columbus recognized the importance of what these residents have accomplished and brought their accomplishments to the attention of Keep America Beautiful and that national organization chose Ganthers Place to receive a Second Place Beautification and Community Improvement Award for 2006; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
 
SECTION 1.  That this Council does hereby congratulate Mr. Alan Carrel, Mr. Ken Williams, and the residents of Ganther's Place and their Reinhard Block Club for taking the initiative to change the negative environmental conditions in their neighborhood through beautification and setting an example for all citizens to follow throughout the City of Columbus.
 
SECTION 2.  That this Council congratulates these exemplary residents who reside on Reinhard Avenue and calls upon citizens throughout Columbus to use "Ganthers Place" as a model to initiate actions in their neighborhood which lead to a cleaner, safer city today and for years to come.
