Title: To designate Masonic Lodge #7 Prince Hall Free & Accepted Masons (PHF&AM), 988 East Long Street as an Individually Listed Property on the Columbus Register of Historic Properties.
Explanation

Background: The Historic Resources Commission is charged with identifying structures of historic and architectural significance, maintaining a list of these structures and other historic resources, and providing regulations through design review and adopted guidelines. With these goals in mind, the Columbus Register of Historic Properties was created.

An application has been made by the St. Mark's Masonic Lodge Temple Association (owner) to list the property located at 988 East Long Street in the Columbus Register of Historic Properties.  Proper notice was given as required by City Code Chapter 3117 and a public hearing was held on February 19, 2009.  Based on the historic and architectural information provided in the nomination, the Historic Resources Commission recommended that the St. Mark's Lodge #7 Prince Hall Free & Accepted Masons (PHF&AM) be listed in the Columbus Register of Historic Properties.

Masonic Lodge #7 is being nominated to the Columbus Register of Historic Properties under Criterion (A) (5): The property is closely and publicly identified with an event or series of events which has (have) influenced the historical or cultural development of the city, state or nation.
Fiscal Impact:  No funding is required for this legislation.
