To honor and recognize Mr. Archie Griffin for his more than nine years of service on the Columbus Recreation and Parks Commission, and to thank him for his many years of service to our community.
 
Body
 
WHEREAS, Mr. Archie Griffin is widely admired in our community and nationally for his decades of public service, his advocacy on behalf of young people, and his unprecedented athletic achievements; and
 
WHEREAS, in his role as president and CEO of the Ohio State Alumni Association, Mr. Griffin's aim is to make it possible for all graduates and former students to stay connected and continue to strengthen the university; and
 
WHEREAS, the only two-time winner of the prestigious Heisman Trophy, Mr. Griffin has inspired generations of young people to reach for the best within them; and
 
WHEREAS, Mr. Griffin is a mentor and role model for young people in our community, and he and his wife Bonita formed the Archie and Bonita Griffin Foundation Fund to help develop sports, educational, and travel programs for youth in central Ohio; Mr. Griffin also created the Archie Griffin Scholarship Fund to benefit Ohio State's Olympic sports programs; and
 
WHEREAS, in addition to his distinguished service on the Recreation and Parks Commission - which included a term as vice president - Mr. Griffin has served as a member of many organizations, including the Columbus Foundation, Columbus Youth Foundation, Centennial Honorary Committee for the Central Ohio Breathing Association, Columbus Metropolitan Library Foundation Board, the 2012 Bicentennial Commission for Sports and Recreation Focus Group, and as honorary chair of the Diversity Enhancement Program for The James Cancer Hospital and Research Institute; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
 
That this Council does hereby honor and recognize Mr. Archie Griffin for his more than nine years of service on the Columbus Recreation and Parks Commission, and thanks him for his many years of service to our community.
