Explanation
BACKGROUND:
On November 7, 2005 Isom Nivins Jr. received the "Public Servant of the Year" award from the Greater Linden Development Corporation. The award is sponsored by State Auto Insurance and was presented by Mr. Win Logan. Mr. Nivins is a 30-plus-year employee of the City of Columbus. In his duties with the City, Mr. Nivins works closely with many of the community groups in both North and South Linden including several block watches, the Greater Linden Development Corporation, the Greater Linden Advisory Council, and both the North and South Linden Area Commissions. On his own time Mr. Nivins is also a volunteer for a number of other programs including the Linden Litter League and the "Special Friends" program, a tutoring program coordinated by the Department of Health. Mr. Nivins also coordinated with Julie Smith of Rebuilding Together Columbus to provide a number of minor home repairs for elderly and disabled persons discovered during Neighborhood Pride Week in South Linden.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
That we honor and recognize Isom Nivins Jr. for being the recipient of the Greater Linden Development Corporation's "Public Servant of the Year" award.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be presented to Isom Nivins Jr. as a token of our esteem.
