Explanation
Background: This legislation authorizes the modification of the option contract FL005451, Ordinance # 0319-2013, passed February 14, 2013, for the option to purchase Protective Footwear an additional four (4) months past the March 31, 2016 expiration date.
A modification to the initial contract was made using ordinance # 0402-2015 to reflect a name change to the company from Safety Solutions, Inc. to Grainger, Inc.

This ordinance is being submitted as an emergency because without emergency action there will be a lapse in the availability of Protective Footwear. It is necessary to extend this contract for the safety of City employees and to be in compliance with the current labor agreements as the current contract expires March 31, 2016. The Purchasing Office is currently drafting updated specifications.

WHEREAS, Protective Footwear is used by various City agencies; and
WHEREAS, it is necessary to modify and extend the contract awarded to Grainger, Inc. to provide protective footwear to various City agencies; and
WHEREAS, in order to maintain the Protective Footwear contract which expires on March 31, 2016, and until the new solicitation can be submitted for bid and awarded, this is being submitted for consideration as an emergency measure; and
WHEREAS, an emergency exists in the usual daily operation of various City agencies in that it is immediately necessary to extend the contract awarded to Grainger, Inc. for the option to purchase Protective Footwear; now, therefore
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
SECTION 1. That the Finance and Management Director is hereby authorized to modify and extend for four months the following contract for the option to purchase Protective Footwear in accordance with FL005451 for the term expiring March 31, 2016.

SECTION 2. That for the reason stated in the preamble hereto, which is hereby made a part hereof, this ordinance is hereby declared to be and emergency measure and shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage and approval by the Mayor or ten days after passage if the Mayor neither approves nor vetoes the same.
