To recognize, designate, and celebrate the inaugural Public Safety Week in Columbus, Ohio from June 25 - July 1, 2023.

WHEREAS, in an effort to build relationships between the Columbus community, safety forces, and City Council, Councilmember Emmanuel V. Remy, Chair of the Public Safety Committee, is launching the inaugural Public Safety Week taking place Sunday, June 25th - Saturday, July 1, 2023; and

WHEREAS, this year Public Safety Week will take place in the Milo-Grogan neighborhood. This week couldn’t be successful without our outstanding partners at the Milo-Grogan Area Commission, Triedstone Missionary Baptist Church, and Columbus Recreation and Parks Department; and

WHEREAS, celebrating Public Safety Week builds relationships by addressing the public safety needs of residents and connecting them to high-quality public safety services and resources; and

WHEREAS, the Columbus Department of Public Safety includes three divisions: Division of Fire, Division of Police, and Division of Support Services. With over 1,500 sworn members of the Division of Fire and over 1,800 sworn members of the Division of Police, our safety forces provide vital care and protection to Columbus residents 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year; and

WHEREAS, it is important that residents of the community also understand how to protect themselves and those around them. Public Safety Week educates and provides lifesaving training and resources to participants; and

WHEREAS, Public Safety Week encourages communication throughout the City of Columbus, consisting of community conversations amongst public safety officials, faith-based leaders, and residents of Columbus; and

WHEREAS, events throughout Public Safety Week provide training, community conversations, the distribution of safety resources, and a day dedicated to service to foster relationship between residents and public safety officials and improve the safety and well-being of Columbus, Ohio; and
