To Recognize and Honor the life of James W. Strozyk, and expresses our sincere condolences to his family and loved ones

WHEREAS, Columbus Division of Police Officer James “Jim” William Strozyk passed on October 13, 2021 at the age of 49; and
WHEREAS, Officer Strozyk, a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, began his career with the Columbus Division of Police as a member of the 107th recruit class. He was assigned to the Patrol and Community Service Subdivisions for his entire 17 years of service with CPD; and
WHEREAS, During his time with the Columbus Division of Police, Officer Strozyk acted as a Field Training Officer, mentoring 20 probationary officers entering the Division; and
WHEREAS, Officer Strozyk received multiple awards from the Division of Police, notably a Special Commendation in 2012 for performing CPR on an overdose victim, a Medal of Merit for peacefully resolving a situation involving an armed person threatening to commit suicide, and a Chief’s Letter for safely taking a man into custody who was armed with a knife; and
WHERAS, His Zone Commander Elrico Alli spoke to Officer Strozyk’s character saying, “I have been honored to work with (Jim) in many capacities from fellow officers to being his commander. Jim was a caring and generous person who would help anyone in need at the drop of a hat. He will surely be missed;” and
WHERAS, Jim Strozyk will be remembered by his wife, Trina, his two daughters, Samantha and Amanda, his grandson, Russell James and his granddaughter, Amirah Leona: now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
That this Council does hereby recognize and honor the life of Columbus Police Officer James W. Strozyk, and expresses our sincere condolences to his family, his Division of Police colleagues, and loved ones.
