To Recognize and Celebrate Trinity Baptist Church on its 100th Anniversary

 

Body

 

WHEREAS, Trinity Baptist Church was first called Evergreen Baptist Church when it opened its doors, on May 5, 1924, at the corner of Naughten and 5th St; and

WHEREAS, in January 1925, the church was renamed Trinity Baptist Church and continued to grow under the leadership of Rev. Green and Rev. Phillips; and

WHEREAS, on October 26, 1930, the congregation assembled, had devotion, and then marched to a new location, at 461 St. Clair Ave., where the church remains to this day; and

 

WHEREAS, under Pastor E.A. Parham, Trinity Baptist Church became a pillar of the Columbus community, and the prison ministry he started became the first of its kind in the community; and

 

WHEREAS, in August 1997, Pastor Victor M. Davis accepted the call to become the fifth pastor of Trinity Baptist Church and, during his tenure, the church helped to revitalize the neighborhood, updated its facilities, and established the Ragland Room and Madeline Parham Library in honor of two dedicated members of the church’s congregation; and

 

WHEREAS, Trinity Baptist Church has a long history of mission work, and was the first church in Ohio to join the Lott Carey Foreign Missions Convention, which was founded in 1897 by African-American Baptists who were committed to a substantial foreign mission thrust - especially on the African continent; and

 

WHEREAS, the ministry of Trinity is diverse, and presently has several active ministries committed to the growth and ministry of maturing Christians; now therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this Council celebrates and honors Trinity Baptist Church for its 100 years of service to the community.
